Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare Announces New Chief Medical Officer

Pleasanton, CA (December 7, 2017) --- Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare today announced that David Svec, MD, MBA, has become the new Chief Medical Officer. He previously served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford Health Care and as Medical Director of the Hospitalist Team at Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare. He brings nearly six years of experience in internal medicine and hospital medicine to his new position.

“David is hardly a newcomer to Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare, having been instrumental in the development of the hospitalist program over the past three years.  He will continue to serve as a hospitalist while taking on additional responsibilities within his new role. As an Academic University Hospitalist at Stanford Hospital and Clinics since 2012, and Medical Director of the Hospitalist Team at ValleyCare since 2015, he had the right combination of experience to serve as our Chief Medical Officer, “ said Scott Gregerson, Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare President.  “David has already contributed significantly to our organization, and I am confident his impact will be further enhanced as we work together to broaden the reach and scope of services we provide in the growing Tri-Valley area.”

In his new position, Dr. Svec will help guide the clinical mission of the organization including the development of innovative programs, monitoring outcome measures and developing and implementing improvement plans.

According to Dr. Svec, “I’ve enjoyed working with this community since 2015, and I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with an exceptionally qualified team to develop new initiatives. In addition to my clinical work, my research and scholarly interests have focused on delivering high-value care through quality improvement projects. In the teaching area, we have already developed a physician assistant student rotation where students can learn with our Stanford Health Care - ValleyCare hospitalist team, and an internal medicine rotation as well. This is just the beginning. ”

Dr. Svec is board-certified in internal medicine, and completed his residency at Stanford University, and received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He has earned more than three awards at the Stanford School of Medicine including the 2016 David A. Rytand Clinical Teaching Award; the 2016 Lawrence Mathers Award: Exceptional Commitment to Teaching/Active Involvement in Medical Student Education; and the 2014 Arthur L. Bloomfield Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.
